Human Interests is a digital essay project that explores the role of culture in the age of technology. The vocabulary of technology has permeated our everyday language, but the language of the humanities has little presence in the way we talk about technology. Technology has become culture; how can culture stay technology?

This project is conceived by Hong Xinyi, a journalist, author, translator, podcast producer, and, apparently, an essayist, which is apt because she will try almost anything at least once. More of her work can be found at xinyiwrites.com

Presented as part of Running with Strippers 2020

Some days 2020 feels like thread fraying at the seams of a woven picture – as we try to place each other in a tide of virtual connections; reality like a loose picture, loses focus. Hong Xinyi’s essay in its sharp reflection of culture and technology, grounds the senses with the singularity of her written words.
