The Kopit people are one of the Orang Laut tribes who come from Kampong Kopit on Brani Island (possibly Sentosa too). They once acted as biduan (musicians) who performed at the king's palace in the society of the Sultanate of Johor-Riau. However, this tribe is believed to have become extinct after assimilating with the Malay community through marriage.
